Kate, pictured here with her older brother John, is 8 years old. We like to call her our "smiling little princess". Kate is known for her smile, inquisitive questions and keen memory for things that matter to family and friends.
A few weeks after starting kindergarten, Kate became ill and was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. This tumor is called Pilomyxoid Astrocytoma. Kate began her long journey of procedures, surgeries, and chemotherapy. An MRI on March 10, 2017 confirmed that the tumor has increased in size. The first time since starting treatment 2-1/2 years ago. The normalcy of the Callahan Family lives has expired and Kate's treatment will be ongoing.
To show our love and support, we will once again provide financial assistance to help with some of the growing medical expenses.
Melanoma Know More
(In Memory of Steve Hazlebeck)
Steve Hazlebeck was diagnosed with stage 3 melanoma in 2007. He was told he had 2 years to live. In 2011 Steve decided he wanted to run the Flying Pig Marathon. He came to the Miles That Matter Foundation for help with his training and fundraising. He felt his purpose was to give back and provide hope to others. He accomplished that goal and many more!
Awareness, education and early detection of melanoma are key to battling this disease. We need to continue fighting to honor Steve's efforts. Let's keep Steve's Story of Hope alive. We can't stop until we find a cure!
